In recent years, technology has managed to normalize what 10 years ago seemed impossible for those of us who walk around the world leading a more or less daily life. A clear example is being able to interview, not without prior confusion about time zones, someone in Denver, I living near Girona and being in Santiago de Compostela on the day of the interview. The interview gave me the opportunity to meet Rubén after a blind date organized through one of our contacts. Rubén is of Mexican origin, he has lived most of his life in the US and therefore his accent is absolutely Yankee. One of those people who generate good vibes from minute one, a person in love with what he does and who gets others hooked on it and, above all, an entrepreneur who detects needs and seeks to satisfy them in a profitable way for all parties. . This is how the AGA, the American Glamping Association, was born. Today we have the honor of interviewing its Founder and CEO.

How does someone fall in love with Glamping and why?
– Good question! Without a doubt due to the experience that more and more clients who stay during their trips seek to satisfy their travel expectations by going beyond the classic beautiful and comfortable room that they aspire to find. It is something that repeats itself like a pattern, no matter if the trip is to the deserts of Morocco or a trip to the surf beaches of South Australia.

When does it become a profession?
– Well, 13 years ago I saw that it was key, so much so that I decided to set up my first company related to glamping; GLAMPING HUB. A Startup that specifically sought to connect guests with Glamping, such as AirB&B or Booking specialized in the glamping sector.

How was the experience?
– Very good! I founded it with a partner and the headquarters was in Seville. We learned a lot, in fact the company is still operating, I sold my share years ago.

Seville? You wouldn’t be wrong!
– I remember Spain as my second residence, my other home. The jovial character of the people, the gastronomy, the celebrations. It is one of those places where you always want to return.

When and why was the American Glamping Association born?
– Born through listening to business. The industry is increasingly fragmented and it is difficult for a glamping entrepreneur, being alone, to keep up to date with everything. Without support I would tell you that it is impossible; regulations, permits, insurance and a long etcetera. A community had to be created aimed at supporting the needs of glamping businesses. People told me “You have to do it!” and here I am! We started in 2016 and today there are more than 700 associates.

And how do you see the future of glamping and the AGA, what projects are you considering?
– Continuing with the previous answer each time, due to a regulatory issue, it is going to be more demanding to keep a glamping business up to date and that is good for the guest and for the association. The guest is guaranteed to be in a glamping and live a regulated and tested experience and for the association it means new progressive entry of members. Being in the association means being part of a proven and specialized community and a seal of quality for your client.

As a curiosity, what is it like to live in Denver?
– It is a very precious place for its exteriors. We are surrounded by mountains and we can afford to go on excursions, bike rides, skiing and a long list of activities. It is also a city very focused on sports. Proof of this are the top teams that compete in their respective national leagues, an example of this is the Broncos in the NFL, the Nugets in the NBA (last season’s champions), a soccer team or the Colorado Avalanche of the league. national hockey
